Free Subscription to Website Magazine

Website MagazineThis isn’t an e-newsletter or ezine or nothing delivered to your email. This is a “real” magazine delivered right to your snail mail box. I’m so excited to find this! As much as I’m online and subsribed to every newsletter under the sun, I love offline - you can hold in your hands - type magazine. I also have a subscription to Online Marketing Monthly which I love and I can’t wait to get this one.

Now I can’t necessarily “recommend this” as of yet becuase I just subscribed myself but, it’s free so I figured why not pass on my find  If it doesn’t cost anything, it can’t hurt, right?

Oh and this isn’t a free trial subscription either - this is a full blown subscription.

I found some of the topics covered on their website such as:
- > Web Business Management
- > Internet Advertising
- > Online Content Publishing
- > Software Solutions
- > Search Engine Optimization
- > Site Design/Usability
- > Website Hosting

Now that’s just an example of some of the topics covered.

Must Read Blog Posts Meme

Alrighty, since Memes are so popular, and we ALL love the link love … I decided it was time to create my OWN Meme

—– start copy and paste —–

Have you ever read a blog post that was absolutely awesome, totally hit home or taught you a lesson you’ll never forget? Maybe you’ve read a post that you just know would help many others? Sure you have, we all have. Because of this, I’ve created the Must Read Blog Posts Meme. It’s very simple to do with lots of link love.

Copy and paste everything in between and including the start and end tags and then all you have to do is post your favorite blog posts and follow the rules listed below:

Here’s the rules:

1. MUST be family friendly!
2. Only FIVE links.
3. Must be clickable text (share those keywords!)
4. Include a link back to the person who tagged you.
5. Posts can NOT be your own posts.
6. Tag at least 3 other people
7. Make it a learning experience - actually read the posts listed by the person who tagged you.
8. Anita from A Tale of 2 Wahms is this meme’s originator. (An active link is appreciate.)

You weren’t tagged but you want to play along anyway? Reply here and I’ll stop by and invite you. (Don’t forget to post your link!)

Boy, that was hard! To lists only 5 must read posts was quite difficult! Maybe this will make it back to me and I can post 5 more, lol!

Your Links are Good Here

U Comment - I FollowAnd I’m still at it. As I mentioned yesterday, these plugins are absolutely addicting. Although, there was one thing that I thought we already had but apparently wasn’t reading closely enough. (Boy, I need to fix that problem of mine!) But serisouly, I really thought we did and I apparently totally misunderstood the whole concept. To be honest with you, I didn’t put that much thought into it because I wouldn’t see why someone would want it any other way - not to mention, you’d think something like this would come un-installed and then let the blogger make that decison.

Apparently most blog software comes with a “no follow tag” installed. Easy description … if our readers leave a comment and a link … it’s a dead-end street. This tag doesn’t allow the search engines to follow comment links. Uh why? I guess I understand because of all the comment spam BUT, hopefully you’re reading your comments anyway … it doesn’t take but a second or two to delete the comments you don’t want. Well, no sense in trying to figure that one out but, just so you know, I’ve broke the tag. So, feel free to leave us a comment and we’ll promise to share the link love. We appreciate our readers and more importantly, we appreciate the interactiveness and feedback. Isn’t that one of the best features of a blog?

Spammers Beware:
Just because we’ve decided to let the links “count” doesn’t mean you can leave us worthless comments just to get the link. Our comments ARE moderated and will continue to be so. Any “spammy links” or “non familiy-friendly links” or “links to spam sites, hate sites or anything of the like sites” will not be permitted and will not be published! So, don’t waste your time or ours. Move on

How to do it:
Depending on what blog platform you’re using, there’s a few different ways around it:

–> If you’re using WordPress, this plugin will do it for you.

–> If you’re using Moveable Type, this post will help you.

–> If you’re using Blogger, this site

This is all a part of the “U Comment - I Follow Movement” Are you a blogger on board? If so, drop us a quick reply and let us know. I promise we’ll let the search engines follow your link

Need Blog Traffic?

Drive Traffic to Your Blog with Your Free Account!Normally you wouldn’t catch me recommending “traffic exchange programs”. As a matter of fact, this is only the second one I’ve ever seen that I’ll truely make my mark of approval. (First one being BlogExplsion) Normally I don’t believe in them. However this one, created by John Reese (who I personally adore) is like none other. Not only does this create more traffic to your blog, but also creates content too. (Yeah, now who wouldn’t like that?)

You can click here to see a short video that goes into full detail so I won’t waste your time too much here. But, the way it works is you place a small widget on the sidebar of your blog and it lists blog posts (and links) of other members. The more the links are shown on your blog and the more people you refer using your referral links gets you something called syndication credits which gives your posts more exposure on the blogosphere. Is that cool or what?

You can see it in action on the right-hand side of our blog —>

Oh and I do want to mention that as I said above, you get more syndication credits by referring others to BlogRush. This is brand new - just launched late last night early this morning and I can’t believe how many people I’ve seen with it already. So, you’ll want to sign up for your fr*ee account now and invite all your friends now. And don’t worry about bothering your friends because they’d be crazy to NOT want to know about this. If you’re a true friend, you’ll share the wealth

Click here to Sign up for your fr*ee BlogRush account now!

P.S. So far I haven’t had any problems personally but apparently there’s been such a mad “rush” (excuse the pun, lol) that some folks are having a hard time getting in. If this happens to you, just be patient .. you’ll get there.

Here’s some Total Momsense

I don’t normally put up things like this because, well because I’m still stuck in the dark ages and I can’t get out, lol! But OMG! This is so funny so be prepared to literally Laugh Out Loud! Enjoy!

WordPress Plugins

Kara taught me a - let’s call it a dangerous tool for me - today. LOL! I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t know how to install new plugins for this blog  I just hadn’t had the time to really look into it. Just to find out it’s super-simple. That is as long as the plugin works properly. I did have a problem with two plugins I tried to install but I don’t think it was my fault. It’s a shame because one of them, which was a spell checker, I really wanted. Oh well, I added quite a few and I can’t wait to put them all to the test  Lord knows I spent enough time looking for different ones! And just in case you don’t know where this is located, here is a list of a whole bunch of WP plugins.

Now, here’s some of the ones that I chose to install here on our blog:

Back-To-School Derby

©Lisa Barker

It’s that time of year again. I half expect to hear Target announce
my arrival when I walk into the store with the kids in tow.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 13th running of the Back-To-School
Derby for the Barker Family. Mom is in good form as she reads each
child the riot act even before they get themselves into trouble.

They’re on the main track now and you can hear the store manager roar
– it’s going to be a profitable day for the Target store!

I Changed My Mind

Alright so I’m a dope. I spent quite a bit of time backing up files and playing with my “new” computer, only to decide to go back to the old one. Yes, here I sit on my OLD computer. I just couldn’t give it up! There’s really nothing THAT wrong with it, aside from a few little weird quirks that I’m more than use to.

You may be thinking, “if she didn’t need a new computer, why buy it?”. Well good question. I actually bought it off a friend’s relative because he was selling it super cheap. Oh it’s very used, and actually I found out it’s even older than my poor old ‘puter. But the thing is, this guy works on computers for a living so I knew it’s been in very good working condition. And it is too - with a whole lot of space (The hard drive is over 100 GB! For those of you who don’t have a clue what that means, let’s put it this way - my main drive on MY computer only has 15 GB!).

This is actually something that’s been bothering me for days. I really had a hard time deciding what computer to stick with. Bouncing back and forth isn’t doing me any bit of good. Also it was hard with the “new” computer to keep finding certain things that weren’t already on it. Things like Microsoft Office, Adobe reader, and a lot of other little things I use several times a day. Then of course there’s all my passwords missing, my bookmarks, and lots of personal settings that just drove me absolutely crazy.

I finally decided to come back to the old one because it’s what I’m use to. I cleaned it up a bit last night so it’s got at least 2 GB to run on (which that was the main reason I was switching, because mine was running out of space and I couldn’t download hardly anything). I also found some ways to move hard drive space to my main drive (what Windows runs on), but it’s so technical it scares the hell out of me lol. I found some programs to do it for me, but of course they aren’t free. Will have to put it on the “to buy” list so I don’t have to move to another computer any time soon.

On the plus side, all my files are backed up and I now have a back up computer. Or should I say the KIDS have a back up computer because we already had an extra lol.  If I can find room somewhere and get another monitor/mouse/keyboard, I may just hook “the beast” up and use it for certain things. We’ll shall see, but for now it’s going to just sit there because I’m too stuck on my old ‘puter!

It’s all about the CONTACT

I won’t share any names or businesses with this post but, I do hope that if the person I’m writing about reads this will take no offense but instead take it as a little nudge of advice. ;) I also hope that our readers will take the same.

This morning I received a newsletter that I subscribe to and opened almost immediately. Sure, I had one or two other emails that were a little higher up on the priority list but as soon as I had a spare moment I opened it right up. Number one, I enjoy the newsletter and number two, it’s written by a friend of mine online from my message boards. I hadn’t heard from her in a while and I automatically realized that I hadn’t received a newsletter from her in a while also. I replied to her newsletter and you’ll read more about my reply later but, here is part of her reply to me:

Mystery Shopping Sites

I don’t usually get into sharing much about Mystery Shopping because there are so many out there that require you to pay money and quite frankly, there’s a ton that are nothing more than scams. However, I have managed to receive a list of sites that are completely and totally legit. An offline friend of mine shared them with me and the way we know they’re legit is the fact that she’s been working with these companies for the past 3 years. I was really excited to hear this and even more excited when she gave me the list to share with my readers! Enjoy!
