It doesn’t matter how many times we say this, the bad tips keep getting passed around. It amazes me really, how people that have been online for so long can keep saying these are GOOD ideas. They’ve tested them, and know they aren’t really getting anywhere. So why pass them along?
So here’s the top three list of “bad ideas” I saw today.
#1. Join surfing sites
People, these DO NOT WORK. Yeah you get visitors, but you don’t get customers. Go spend your time doing something more productive that WILL bring you customers. Like SEO work.
#2. Use keyword tags
You want to stuff your site with 50+ keywords in the tag, go right ahead. Google doesn’t pay one bit of attention to them though. I’m not saying ignore them, but don’t spend hours on it. Google also doesn’t pay attention when you “submit your site” to them. Google crawls your site all on it’s own, so go back to working on SEO.
#3. Run contests
Looking for a way to build a list of freebie seekers that won’t spend a dime? Run some contests giving away free stuff. Those who join your list to get something free will NEVER BUY. In fact, they are more likely to cry spam than spend any money on you. Quality over quantity…..remember that.
It really does amaze me these things are still being suggested, especially by people who have been around for awhile. Anita even wrote an article focused on this very topic probably 3 years ago……and this stuff is STILL being passed around! No wonder so many people fail online when they are listening to “advice” like this.
Seriously, be very careful who you listen to on message boards, and do your own testing before offering advice.
