Hello Froggy
Yesterday we took a family day after the newsletters went out, and gained a new pet. We didn’t adopt him, but it seems he’s adopted us.
As the title of this blog suggests, we did in fact find a frog. For those living in the country this may not seem like much. I grew up in the country, and seeing frogs were not a big deal. Although sitting here in the middle of town with no streams, creeks, or other bodies of water near, this is somewhat puzzling to me.
He’s decided our swimming pool makes a perfect frog home. It’s not a “real” pool anymore because it has so many holes. It actually sits under the slide, and we call the set up our “redneck waterslide”. It collects some water, but never stays filled up completely.
We’ve been so busy we hadn’t been outside to play in the water for several days. The “pool” was getting a bit on the gross side and I knew it needed to be cleaned before they could play in it. So I went out to clean it, and found him sitting in the middle where there was no water. Apparently our nasty pool was a perfect place to catch some bugs.
We moved him to real wading pool while we cleaned his home up a bit. I’m guessing he’s not too happy about it, but what do I know about frogs lol. After the kids were done playing on the slide (and with him too - my oldest got quite the kick watching him in the other pool), we moved him back to the big pool. He was also pretty easy to pick up, and seemed to like sitting on our hands. Cute!
What do you know, he’s still there today! And yes, he can get out of it too. I just don’t think he wants to. Here’s a pic of our new pet (yes I’m easily amused!) :

LOL! A friend of mine had that happen to her. Except she ended up with a whole family!! Seriously, somehow she ended up with like eight frogs. Needless to say, she ended up giving the pool to the frogs and getting her daughter a new pool.
However, do keep in mind … we DO live in the country so, seeing the frogs was no big suprise to us! LOL!

Yeah in the country I wouldn’t have thought anything of it. I grew up in the middle of nowhere and I remember more than once finding frogs in my pool as a kid. But here in town? What’s up with that?
I fear for the little guy when it starts to get colder. A pool is not the same as a creek and it will get put away. I’m thinking we might see if he can go live at the wildlife refuge outside of town.

Aww, he’s so cute. I love frogs. We used to have one that lived under our frontporch. There’s no water or anything around us. He’d come out when I was weeding sometimes. Haven’t seen him in a couple of years though.
Frogs dig holes and hibernate when it gets colder. But I’d probably take him to a wildland area too.

I was looking at types of frogs trying to figure out what he was, and I did see some that actually do not live in water. Ours I believe is a Green Frog just because of his looks, his size, and the way he floats on the water.
I did also read about how they hibernate. Again I fear how he’d be able to if the pool isn’t there. My backyard isn’t even close to the wild lol.
But yes, he goes to his new home tomorrow out in the wildlife refuge. I’m sad, but I think he’s better out there.
