Lesson in Content Importance

In a previous post I mentioned a new project and release of a new website. I really am working on it! It’s not getting put on the back burner again. However, before  diving into the profession of SEO Copywriting I need to set a good example with my own sites, right?

Don’t ask how I got to this point, because I originally started off planning to do promotion for the new site. Somehow I ended up searching for keywords for topics on the candle blog. Which then led me to taking a look at the main site.

I know there were pages on Prairie Soy Candles that needed work. All the main pages were finished with nice copy. The store pages (which are a little more tricky) I did about half of. Well no, let me give myself a little more credit. I did MOST of them. There were still a few pages I had just left, including a newer page I did rather quickly.

Bad. Very bad. I knew better, I really did. Time issues got in the way, so I didn’t write the description and content like I should have. I was looking at pages today, and realized it’s one page that has made ZERO sales, while the rest of the well written pages are pulling in sales left and right. They all have pretty good rankings too, thus the reason for the number of sales.

Lesson learned.  I’m now going back and re-writing the page. Giving it more content instead of the lousy 300 words it’s got right now. (Which that number should be more like 1,000). What was I thinking anyway? Gees.

Point taken ;) Or should I say well reminded? It’s too easy to just throw a page up there just to get it there. But, just because it’s there doesn’t mean it’s going to pull sales (which has been proven). If others don’t know it’s there and they can’t find it because you didn’t optimize it … what good is it doing? The saving of time you did to just throw the page up there actually lost you time because nothing came of it.

Yeah, yeah, I’m talking to myself ABOUT myself here … thanks for the reminder!
