Trainland & Prairie Days
It’s been non-stop running keeping the kids entertained this summer. Over the weekend was our town celebration. Today was a trip to a local attraction: Trainland USA.
The name pretty much says it all. The building sits off the highway and reminds of you of an old fashion “road side attraction”. You step right into the days when family vacations weren’t done on interstates or to theme parks.
Featured is toy trains zooming along all kinds of landscapes from all over the US. You start out looking at people and landmarks from New York, moving on to Virginia, then Ohio, and so on. Old fashion houses, people, cars and other items are set up around the train tracks.
You are given a scavenger hunt of sorts when you first walk in. The paper points out certain things to find within the state areas. It’s really fun because it encourages you to see every little detail they’ve set up.
Chase got a little on the bored side towards the end, but this was a Jillian-friendly place to go. She’s a slow-poke when it comes to walking around, so she was looking at every little detail along with us. Chase we kept having to pull back lol.
I did find their website, so you can see some pictures of where we went today: Trainland USA .
About every 10-15 mins they flip off the lights to show some night scenes such as a drive-in movie and mini fireworks show (you push the button on the outside to make the fireworks show up - there’s other buttons that move different things as well). Our favorite was the drive-in, the fireworks, and the circus. Personally I’ve always liked the shoot out on the moving train towards the end in the pioneer section. Unfortunately you’ll have to actually visit to see these, since they aren’t on the site.

Prairie Days was a blast as well. I’m so excited to report Jillian won the kids tractor pull in the 4 yr old division! I was so proud of her! She peddled her little heart out, and went farther than the other 4 yr olds. Chase did very well in the 7yr old division too, but he’s such a little guy! Jillian will be going to the state finals in September. Go Jillian!
In addition to the kids games in the morning, they had rides and games going on all day. Chase was old enough this year to bring his bike with him, and he wandered all day long. I took Jillian home for a break in mid-afternoon, but Chase stayed. When the band started that evening, I spotted Chase up near the stage dancing with other kids. I just love small towns! We torn down our table and went home around 9:30 so the kids could get cleaned up before the fireworks at 10. They sat out there in PJs and watched from our front deck. So fun!
I swear I do work, but boy is it hard to do sometimes in the summer! Isn’t it awesome to have so many automated ways of running a business online?
