Household Improvement Fun

Ah the life of a single WAHM. Put up Etsy listings, write a sales letter, stain the deck………wait, what? Yeah you heard me. On a whim yesterday, I decided it was time to stain the deck.

Right between the sales letter and supper, I started the huge job of staining the deck. Alright so maybe I wasn’t completely done getting all the red paint off it (I HATE painted wood!), but it was good enough. Plus the stain I got was a red-tone color meant to blend in with what I missed.

Did I mention I bought this stain a year ago? Yeah, now you see why I finally just jumped into it yesterday……I was beyond tired of looking at my bleached deck and waiting on other things. Like planting hostis around the deck so I don’t have to mow or pull weeds under it anymore (yeah that’s why I love gardening - makes it easier to mow! LOL!).

I really didn’t think it was going to be that big of a job. After all, it couldn’t be harder than scrubbing the deck with bleach right? WRONG! Oh my do I hurt today. Muscles that I didn’t even know I had are screaming at me. What’s worse is I’m not even done! I’ve got to some how drag my tired rear out the door and finish what I started. Especially because they are talking rain tomorrow and the day after. Joy.

I really thought I was going to be done before I went and picked the boy up from school, but it didn’t work out that way. I knew there was a reason I didn’t want to attempt keeping and eye on both of them while doing this. I found out why shortly before supper.

It was a hot day, so I had no problems with them playing in the hose in the back yard. No biggie. Splash around, get your clothes wet……..heck I don’t care. Keeps them out of trouble, right? Not my kids. They seem to find trouble in the simplest of things.

Once I ran out of stain and wandered to the hose to wash things up, I was greeted by two mud monsters. They had DUG A HOLE and filled it with water. Remind me to thank grandpa for the metal shovels he gave them a few weeks ago.

I suppose I should finish my mess before the girl gets out of preschool here in an hour or two. Next time I take on something like this, I’m enlisting help. Help in general around here would be more than welcome at this point.

Well don’t feel so bad for one thing … we have a bucket of stain down here we bought last year too. Right along with the pond liner, the grass seed and all the other little things that SOUNDED great but the actual task of doing it …eh, maybe not! LOL!

Although I will say one thing. My deck wasn’t painted (I too hate painted wood) but it’s never been finished (and we built it 8 years ago) So needless to say, it really needs some help. But luckily my inlaws have a pressure sprayer that I will happily be using! LOL!
