You Need to Write
The thought hit me yesterday as I was reorganizing myself. In order to survive online, you have to know how to write. Even if you hire ghostwriters and PLR articles, at some point you are going to need to write something.
Now this post could easily end up another PLR article rant, but I’m going to try my hardest to not let it go there. The point I need to make here is that regardless of what you end up buying along the way, you need basic writing skills.
Let me just give a quick run down of all that online business owners need to write for:
- Websites
No content, no sales. Simple as that. If you are planning to work on SEO at some point in time, you are going to need to write content for your pages. Even if you are blowing off SEO, you are still going to need to write good descriptions for your products.
- Newsletters
If you don’t have a newsletter of some kind, you are seriously missing the boat. This is a key element in online success, and no something you can skip. And a newsletter needs - yup you guessed it - content. Not to mention one of the best ways to promote a newsletter is by article marketing.
- Blogs
Again, this is a big one. Everyone needs a blog. I have several actually, but this is the only one I post on a regular basis. And look here - I’m WRITING!
- Articles
As mentioned before, writing articles is one of the best ways to promote your site or newsletter. Even if you buy PLR articles, you still need to edit them yourself.
- Customer Service
As in emails from customers. Send an unhappy customer an email in all caps or poor punctuation, and I can bet you won’t be in business for long. Sounds harsh I know, but it’s the truth. People really don’t want to give their money to someone that looks like they didn’t pass 6th grade English. Do you?
- Networking
If you scan message boards only looking for information and never giving back, karma is going to get you in the end. “I agree” one line posts don’t count either. Give some well thought out, detailed information from time to time. Get a good response? Then turn it into an article!
Really it’s not that hard to write. I see people all the time spending half their day on message boards, then try to say they can’t write. If you can post to boards and answer emails all day, well then yes you can. What’s more, you should be using your time actually writing information for your site instead of just playing on the boards. Not to say you shouldn’t give out good information in these places, but just be sure you are spending most of your time and energy on your own business.
Increasing in Him,
Kara

Aloha,
I’ve heard that writing is important for an online presence. I’ve been doing a lot of studying and still haven’t gotten my newsletter or written any articles. This gives me motivation to do just that!

Yolanda,
Just a thought here … but, instead of studying, just do it. Give it a try and as they say, practice, practice, practice. I can honestly say I remember saying “I can’t write!” And look at me now, I don’t know how many articles, reports, ebooks and books I have under my belt now.
Actually, I really enjoy writing. There is nothing more accomplishing than writing an ebook or something of the sorts.
You can do it!
Take care,
Anita
