Oh, I am so addicted!

I am so in trouble here! LOL!

You see, we built our home 8 years ago. As far as landscaping goes, we’ve done the bare minimum. Truth be told … I don’t have a clue as to what I’m doing. When I grew up, we lived in town with a very small yard and really no space to do anything. Not to mention, my mom wasn’t a “flower person”.

To top it off … my thumbs … well, my thumbs are purple. (Yes, I said purple, probably the farthest color from green.) Everytime I get a house plant, I kill it.

Well, when I got home from the hospital, I was sent an arrangement of some greens. A friend of mine (who has a very green thumb) came over and seen all these greens in this basket and about went nuts. She just loved them all. And was asking me if I was going to seperate them all into their own pot etc etc. I told her probably not because my thumbs were purple and I didn’t know what I was doing. Well, she splits them all up for me giving me some tips along the way. Almost 3 months later and they’re still living - this is a major accomplishment for me. AND I’m really starting to enjoy and appreciate them. But this isn’t the problem …

The problem is OUTSIDE. And Oh my Gosh am I going nuts! LOL! We decided it was time to start fixing up this thing we call a yard and make it look pretty. So, we decided to start with planting some bushes out front. From there it just went nuts!

I bought some of that stuff you lay down (like a fabric or plastic type stuff - see I told you I don’t know what I’m doing!) anyway, the stuff you lay down to keep the weeds out. (Guaranteed for 10 years!) So, we put that down, I bought a whole “scoop” of mulch … and the plants … oh the plants, here’s where it’s gone crazy!

I kept all the tags so I know what I have, lol! This is what I have:

3 Little Giant Arborvitae
2 Blue Chip Juniper
1 Emerald Gaitey Euonymus
1 Purple Leaf Sand Cherry
1 Crimson Pygmy Barberry
1 Dwarf Alberta Spruce
1 Hydrangea
2 Purple Rhodedendron
2 Pink Azalea
1 Bunch of pansies
1 Bunch of (can’t find the tag … but these are another set of little annuals)
1 Apple Tree
1 Weeping Willow

But here’s the thing … I’ve become addicted. I mean there’s this attraction going on here. My online work is slipping because I can’t wait to get outside. I now have a pair of jeans and a pair of shorts that are my “gardening clothes” because I’m getting down and dirty, lol! There’s been a couple of nights that hubby and I were out there working until we had to stop because it was just simply way too dark to see anything!

We also needed to do some major work because we needed a lot of dirt. And I mean a lot. We’re on our tri-axle of filler dirt and then we’ll be getting a tri-axle of top soil.

But this addiction is really bad. I haven’t been working online like I should. I’ve been spending every spare moment out in the yard.

On Tuesday, I went to the grocery store to pick something up for supper. Luckily, I did come home with something for dinner but I also came home with 3 mini rose bushes, a new pair of gardening gloves and a watering can. I have to put blinders on every time I drive past a place with plants. I have an obsession as I’m driving down the road that I have to see what everyone else is doing with their lawns.

It’s getting kind of scary. But, the good news … the outcome is looking absolutely gorgeous! For not knowing what we’re doing, we’re doing a pretty darned good job at it!

So, if I seem a little MIA … just know I’m out in the yard making it beautiful. But, what am I going to do when I get everything planted that I can????
