Alexa Not Worth It
Alright this is just getting out of hand. There was a huge “Alexa buzz” a few years ago, but it quickly died as the top marketers learned how worthless it really was. Although lately there seems to be another buzz swarming around, and I’m just not understanding this.
Let me tell you a little fact. Alexa bases it’s rankings on traffic. BUT, it only counts visitors that use the tool bar. Which spyware scans and virus blockers see as risk. My tool bar was lost several years ago in a spyware scan, and I never reinstalled it. What for? It wasn’t doing anything for me but giving me a bogus ranking on my site.
Now here’s the really funny thing. My “ranking” dropped big time once that tool bar was gone. You know why? Because *I* was not being counted as a visitor anymore. So tell me how easy it is to bulk up your ranking just by visiting your own site every day and having the tool bar installed?
Listen people, Alexa rankings are WORTHLESS. They do NOT show how much traffic a site really gets. Not even CLOSE! All it shows is how many Alexa toolbar users are visiting your site (which that number is getting very very small I imagine!). Why some places have started to take these rankings so seriously I will never know. It’s not a number I want to be posting all over my site, that’s for sure! I might as well be posting how many “hits” my site gets a day. Completely worthless information in my opinion!
Increasing in Him,
Kara
