Surviving Winter Break
It’s that time of year again. The kids will be out of school for at least a full week or two, and moms everywhere will be cursing the school district for giving them such a long break. It’s not like summer where you can throw them in the pool and call it good. Oh no, the weather is usually so bad your kids are stuck in the house driving you absolutely crazy.
Now luckily they have all kinds of new toys to play with, keeping them occupied for the most part. Although with new toys also comes new arguments between siblings. You know, they screams of “That’s MINE!” and “But I want to PLAY with that!”. Playing mom-in-the-middle and juggling your online business can be quite the challenge.
Some of us just give up and take a small vacation too. Spending time with family and doing things you can’t normally do when they are in school. That’s a wonderful idea, but it’s also important to remember your business needs your attention too.
After Christmas is the prime time to put out all those after Christmas sales. It’s also a good time to sort out your goals for the New Year. The start of a new year brings a sense of renewed energy and focus, so you don’t want to miss out on that being disorganized.
Take at least an hour or two every day to really focus on getting work done. Let your kids know as soon as you get certain things done, you will all do something together. Bake cookies, do crafts, play with new games you got for Christmas. Just be sure to give them your attention as a reward for letting you work.
Bottom line - don’t let family frustration take you away from succeeding. After all you are mom - you have the built in ability to juggle anything. Â

Built in ability … Love that! ROFL!
But, you’re so right. The week between Christmas and New Year’s is when our Winter Break is. Well, actually today was their last day of school until the 2nd. After school today, they came running through the house squealing and singing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”. Yeah, the way they burst through the door today, my first reaction was cursing teachers too. ROFL (Okay, just a little.) It didn’t take me long to remind myself of what it must be like to be a child and feeling the “magic of Christmas” and Santa. Of course they’re going to be squealing! I did too!! LOL!
Anyway, with that said, I too will probably be taking a bit of a break during that week and I’ll be sitting on the living room floor playing those new games right with them. I’m really looking forward to it. But, you can be guaranteed, I will have a couple of hours set aside each day to answer important emails, check the message boards etc. I find the thing that helps me the best is to actually put a time limit on my work time. That way they know exactly how much time I will be spending working. Instead of saying “just a minute more” or “let me finish this one project”. That means nothing to them. I’m guilty, I know. That “one minute” turns in to five, ten, fifteen or even more. It’s amazing how quickly time goes when you’re working!

LOL! The other day Matthew said to me “I thought you were going to get my lunch!” after about the 3rd time of my saying “Just one more minute - I need to finish what I’m doing here.”
Winter break will be a blessing one way - having someone else here to entertain/occupy Matthew. But at the same time with them both here, and with new toys - the demands on my time will definitely be different.
I’m taking my main time away from work right before the holiday and the week between Christmas and New Years will be goal oriented to gear up for what I’m expecting to be a very prosperous new year! That’s also my wish for all of us!
Happy Holidays Everyone!

We’ve been on Christmas break for nearly a week now. (The kids got out on Tuesday.) I really miss the peace and quiet, but of course I’m also glad for the family time.
