No Business Cards??

Over the weekend we were at a craft show. We’ve got ourselves tuned in pretty well, and most of the time have all our ducks in a row.  Layout of the table, brochures as “contact information” when asked or to put with orders, and what candles to bring.

Some form of contact information to give is pretty much standard. Some have catalogs, some have brochures, and others have business cards. Now I’ll admit we do NOT have business cards, but we DO have brochures. Not only do they get our contact information, but they get our scent list and prices as well. And yes, I get several calls a month from people with brochures in hand.

I thought it was a standard anyway…..until I came across someone that had NOTHING to give me but a name and number scribbled on a scratch paper. She was selling food mixes and gift items for a pretty good price.  I saw cute bags of cocoa mix that would have made for perfect stocking stuffers for my kids. I didn’t want to buy them right now though, for fear they wouldn’t keep until December. So I asked for a business card so I could contact her later. The handwritten info was all I got, and she didn’t seem to happy about having to take the time to write it down for me either. Hmm, alright…..

I walked back to my own table realizing I probably would not be contacting her. Not because it was “unprofessional” or anything like that. But just simply because that scribbled paper wouldn’t stay in my purse for long. In fact, I don’t think it even made it to my purse! Now that I’m talking about it I’ll probably remember, but if I was the average customer would I know in a month what that paper was for? Probably not!

So if you are going to craft shows, make absolutely sure you have some form of contact information to give your customers and potential customers. Even handmade simple business cards (printed on cardstock at the very least!) are going to make a huge impact on your business. People DO call for more information, reorders, and give the cards to family or friends.

If you want business, you need to give the impression you want it!
