WordPress Plugins
Kara taught me a - let’s call it a dangerous tool for me - today. LOL! I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t know how to install new plugins for this blog
I just hadn’t had the time to really look into it. Just to find out it’s super-simple. That is as long as the plugin works properly. I did have a problem with two plugins I tried to install but I don’t think it was my fault. It’s a shame because one of them, which was a spell checker, I really wanted. Oh well, I added quite a few and I can’t wait to put them all to the test
Lord knows I spent enough time looking for different ones! And just in case you don’t know where this is located, here is a list of a whole bunch of WP plugins.
Now, here’s some of the ones that I chose to install here on our blog:
Random Posts Widget
We’ve actually not seen this one in action as of yet. However, once we do get it running, what it is supposed to do is display a list of random posts on your widgetized sidebar. I thought this one would be neat to bring attention to some of our older posts to our newer readers. Hopefully we can see this in action soon.
Edit Comments XT
Edit Comments XT is a simple WordPress plugin that allows commenters to edit their own comments. To edit a comment, a user must have the same IP address as the user that made the comment and they must also make the edit within a specific time frame. The default edit time window is 30 minutes, but it can be changed easily in the plugin’s option page.
Subscribe to Comments
Subscribe to Comments is a robust plugin that enables commenters to sign up for e-mail notification of subsequent entries. The plugin includes a full-featured subscription manager that your commenters can use to unsubscribe to certain posts, block all notifications, or even change their notification e-mail address!
WP Grins ![]()
As you can see … WP Grins will provide clickable smilies for both the post form in the admin interface and the comments form of your blog.
All In One SEO Pack
Yay! I was thrilled to find this one! This pack optimized your WP blog for Search Engines (Search Engine Optimization) by:
- Automatically optimizing your titles for seach engines and letting you tweak them further.
- Generating META tags automatically and letting you define them.
- Avoiding indexing of duplicate content.
I highly recommend this one!
And last but certainly not least because this is the reason I went there in the first place AND wanted to learn how to install them!
Math Comment Spam Protection
The comment spam on this blog has gotten way out of control. I delete at least 30 - 40 spam comments a day. I even have all those blocked words in place. I swear they just sit around and think of new ways to let their comments. What a PIA! So, I went on the search to find a good plugin to cut back on that. There were quite a few listed. Some I didn’t care for the set up and some that had some negative feedback listed so I looked over those ones. I’m just learning how to install these things, I didn’t need extra problems on top of it.
Math Comment Spam Protection asks the visitor making the comment to answer a simple math question. This is intended to prove that the visitor is a human being and not a spam robot. Example of such question: Sum of 9 + 9 ? So I guess you better brush up on your math skills before you can reply here! lol!
I’m sure I’ll be adding more in the future but I had to get out of there! You could spend an entire day and then some installing new plugins. So, here’s my warning … they are addicting … very, very addicting! But, you’ll enjoy!
Oh and I almost forgot … don’t forget to come back and share your favorite plugin!
Increasing in Him,
Anita

Thanks Lynn! And if you haven’t been to her blog … it’s HIGHLY recommended
Lynn of ClickNews.com recommended Akismet. It was already installed on my blog but we never activated it. I just activated it so we’ll see how it goes.
Next I’ll be working on the Subscribe to Comments!
