Aweber vs. Feedblitz

I’m fighting off the urge to be completely snotty – instead of a complete vent post, I decided to do a very nice comparison of Aweber and Feedblitz when it comes down to blog posts by email. *GASP* She’s being nice! Shocking isn’t it?

Aweber
I’m going to start with my preference when it comes to subscription feeds by email. Aweber hands down is one of the best mailing list provider I’ve ever used. They make it super easy to set up a blog broadcast, and give you complete control over every little detail right down to the way the email looks when it hits your subscriber’s inbox.

The downside….it costs. If you are looking for just subscription for a blog, it may not be your best choice. Although if you are like most of us online and have multiple lists/projects…..well it may be perfect for you. You should see our “list of lists” on Aweber. It’s quite large!

Feedblitz

Being free and easy is about all I have to say about Feedblitz. It’s probably all I should say because I haven’t “played with it” in sometime. But there is one big negative strike I have against Feedblitz that’s so bad, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The “strike” ? The fact they do not let anyone with a “general” email address subscribe. By their terms “general” email addresses include any that start with “info”, “sales”, or “contact”. YIKES! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! If you use Feedblitz, be prepared not to have any subscribers that own their own website. I know there are LOTS of those with their own website that use something basic. Why not? It’s more professional! Not according to Feedblitz though, who sees it as some sort of evil spammer address. HA! And you thought not allowing “free email” addresses on lists was bad!

Since this is turning into a vent, I’ll stop now. But just remember when picking companies for professional services, it’s usually best to eat the cost.

The problem is some of us can’t afford the $20/mo (or whatever) to have the Aweber service – thus…What’s a WAHM to do??

This is true I know. There might be another free service out there like FeedBlitz, but I haven’t taken the time to look. I just don’t recommend using them because of the reasons listed.

I think the cost could be justified if using it for both mailing list and blog mailing list. Plus of course, you would then have the ability to add unlimited lists without problems.

I would say start out with a free list, then move over when the list is making you money. Although you will end up losing a good majority of that list in the move. It weeds out the non-readers, but still…..ouch! Not something I really want to do again!
