They Let Me In PTO!
Well I never thought they’d turn me into one. I’m not a “soccer mom”, but I AM a PTO mom. Crazy that they “let me in”. Of course I’m trying to get through doing as little work as possible, but darn my hand…. it keeps volunteering me for things.
Last night was my first meeting ever, and boy was it a long one. I’ve been assured they normally aren’t this long. They had better not be. I thought my friend (who was watching my kids) was going to kill me. But either way I found out some interesting information, and felt like I was “involved” in something school related, which was nice.
It’s amazing what all the PTO actually organizes and pays for. I also feel much better about spending money on fundraisers. I now KNOW where that money is going to, and I like it. In fact, we voted last night more money go into the library which I couldn’t have been more excited about. I’ve got a kid that really isn’t into sports (he’s just not much of a “team player”), but he’s a reader that’s for sure. This is something HUGE for him.
Somehow I’ve got myself helping with the book fair next week. Yup just fit that in before the peddle pull thing for the youngest, and a friend’s wedding reception that weekend. Which I’m hoping everything IS set up by the end of Friday evening because I’m just not going to be here on Saturday. I’m not even sure I’m going to make that wedding reception!
As if PTO wasn’t demanding enough, I now have two kids “involved” in “stuff”. The youngest now has dance once a week, and the oldest will have Tae Kwon Do once a week (which thankfully it doesn’t start for another few weeks). Apparently the PTO meetings will be on the same night as dance class too, but they are only once a month. Which is good, because I had to figure out how to get the kids FED last night - yes I was THAT short on time.
What was that I said about being happy summer was over so things would calm down? HAHAHA!

Yup, exactly one of the things I don’t care for school starting, lol! Get home from school, get homework done, get fed (yeah, which I know like you is often the hardest part, lol!)then go to practice (or whatever you have that particular night) get home, bathed and go to bed. It’s like a nut house on a typical night here. Luckily, for the most part I still only have one with homework. I don’t foresee too much yet with my little guy in first grade but I have a feeling by next year, that’ll be another pressure.
Eh, but we’re having a great time doing it!!
And as far as the PTO goes … our is called the Home & School Association and I never got involved with ours. However, last year I did overhear one meeting (I was there for something else) and I hope to maybe try to jump in this year. Am I crazy or what? LOL

Yes you are crazy lol. But I do recommend attending at least once, because it’s interesting what you learn. As crazy as it is around here, I’m glad I’m involved!

And that’s exactly what I’m thinking. Just eavesdropping filled me in on things that I didn’t know what was going on. That and the fact that they were practically begging for help in different areas. That I felt was really sad. We’re talking a group of moms (small at that) taking care of 6 grade levels and some have more than one class (for example, my daughter’s fifth grade class was broken down into two classes). So, we’re talking about how many students here? If each parent took the time to do ONE thing to help out the school, there would be no begging for help. Know what I mean?
But, fess up Kara, you really are enjoying it too, aren’t you? LOL!

‘Enjoy’ is such a strong word LOL. Sitting around talking to adults is nice though. And yes I know what you mean about begging for help. But here’s something crazy I noticed - most that attended all had little ones for the most part. Maybe 2 or 3 had kids above 2nd grade. And maybe it will be a different story when mine are older too lol.
