Get a Clue PayPerPost
I use to be quite involved with PayPerPost. I wouldn’t say I made a fortune, but it gave me some play money. Some of the opportunities were kinda fun, and blended so well with the blog that most didn’t even notice I was getting paid to write them.
Unfortunately though, they’ve screwed up their set up so bad there is really no point for the advertisers to even bother. What’s worse they’ve kicked out what could have been some really beneficial posters.
What am I talking about here? Well they’ve decided to use Google PageRank and Alexa rankings to determine the blog’s worth. Ah what? Your joking right? A big company like you who plays middle man to advertisers and publishers really is THAT CLUELESS about online marketing?
Let me explain why BOTH “tools” are completely worthless and should have ZERO impact on the worth of any site, page, or blog.
Alexa is spyware. Pure and simple. Go ahead and run a scan if you are still using their toolbar (which didn’t have any purpose but to show you the rank of any given site). Their “rankings” are based on visitors….but only visitors that use the toolbar. Sorry my rankings are bad because MY visitors are smart people who don’t allow spyware to linger on their computers.
What about Google PR? That’s good right? Well yeah, it’s good……TO GOOGLE! Why they ever made it a public thing I’ll NEVER know, because it makes almost ZERO difference in the way a site is ranked. Well it does, but it’s one in a thousand factors.
Let me tell you WHY you shouldn’t pay any attention to PR now more than ever. My home page for Prairie Soy Candles was sitting on the second page for my main keyword term when the home page had a PR4. Google did it’s dance, and my PR dropped to 3. “GASP!!!” I said. I cursed, I freaked out, I swore I was done fighting with Google. That is until I went and checked on my keyword term again…..and found my site on the FIRST page! Yes you heard me correctly - my PR DROPPED while my rankings went UP. Yeah now tell me PR makes that much of a difference!
Back to my point here…..
PPP has now started letting the advertisers pick and chose which blogs they allow to take them on based on Google PR and Alexa rankings. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. They just cut the number of publishers down so far the advertisers are probably not getting ANY posts anymore.
It just really amazes me this is something NEW they started doing, when all this has been known to be dead for months if not years. I’m just struggling to find the answer as to WHY they would do something so incredibly stupid. Especially after they paid all us to promote their site in the beginning in order to drive all those publishers in. Really makes a lot of sense to have them now, doesn’t it?
I do see them being around much longer if they keep on this track. Smooth move guys, really.
Increasing in Him,
Kara

Hey Kara,
Advertisers have been able to require a Page Rank and Alexa score for approximately 6 months. This was implemented because it was requested by the advertisers. It may not mean so much to you, but there are advertisers who find it helpful. There are still many opportunities which do not require any Page Rank or Alexa score.

If someone asked me to make something available I knew was bad marketing, I wouldn’t do it. For example, if someone said to us “offer search engine submission on your site”, I’d say NO WAY because I know how worthless it is.
My reputation is more important than requests of those who don’t know any better.

Hmm…
I think if it were me…
Instead of offering it (just to make them happy), I believe I would have to tell the advertisers exactly why we don’t use it and take that time to teach them exactly how worthless Alexa & Page Rank really are.
Take the opportunity to inform them instead of letting them believe that it is important. As Kara said … reputation is much more important.
What do you think these folks are going to think about PPP once they find out that they [Page Rank & Alexa Ratings] are worthless? I bet they’ll wonder why the people of PPP didn’t already know this. And if they found out then that they did? Well, there goes that trust right out the window.
Yeah, as Kara said … I’m sorry but I think I’d have to pick my reputation.
But, that’s just my two cents

There are hardly any opps that can be taken with no PR. I’ve had my blogs for years with lot’s of traffic to them. Alas, no PR on some of them.
Not only are there very few opps that I can take, but they are the same one’s all the time. Then the advertisers of course don’t want you taking their opp over and over. Therefore it is narrowed down even more.
I quit even checking PPP. Yes, I was paid quickly, but there is just no choice now and I can’t mix it into my blog unless I have choices.
I just stick with my affiliates now.

Good for you Val. I think I’ll be doing the same for extra “blog cash”. Not that I ever post too much that isn’t personal ramblings, but affiliates would probably be better for the “extra” posts.
